Overview
Summary - Our challenge revolves around patients who, despite being ideal candidates for home dialysis, decline it due to fear and risk aversion. This hesitation often stems from misinformation and concerns about self-care responsibilities.
As a team, we recognised that these obstacles occur at various stages of the patient's path toward automated peritoneal dialysis (APD). Our objective was to address these issues by providing patients with reliable and valuable information.

APD stands for "Automated Peritoneal Dialysis," a treatment for kidney failure that uses a machine to automatically perform peritoneal dialysis at home, removing waste and excess fluids from the body.
This treatment is done at home, providing patients with greater control over their dialysis schedule than traditional hemodialysis.

After conducting interviews with both nurses and dialysis patients, it became evident that the learning curve associated with training for APD, coupled with the emotional and psychological stress experienced during daily dialysis, were significant challenges frequently mentioned by those involved in the process.

We created posters aimed at introducing the idea of Home Dialysis to patients in the hospital, fostering initial awareness. To ensure a reader-friendly experience, we employed cheerful and engaging visuals, acknowledging the potential intimidating atmosphere of a hospital.

This conversational style ensures that patients can readily grasp the content and take it home with them.

We opted to develop an instructional website that serves as a step-by-step tutorial for future patients on the proper use of the machine, offering a practical solution.
We did consider the possibility of redesigning the machine, time constraints limited our options to achieve this within one week.

However, we also aimed to improve the accessibility of the extensive Baxter booklet for all users.
Hence, we redesigned the booklet, implementing color-coded chapter dividers to enhance user-friendliness.
